Numerical modelling of relative contribution of planetary waves to the atmospheric circulation

Abstract. Using the general circulation model of middle and upper atmosphere (MUAM), a number numerical scenarios were implemented to study impact individual planetary waves (PWs) on global atmospheric circulation, including zonal wind, temperature, residual meridional (RMC). The calculations performed for winter conditions Northern Hemisphere (January–February). We show contribution formation dynamic temperature regimes MUAM made by equatorial Kelvin propagating east, as well normal modes (NMs) with periods from 4 16 d. In particular, it is demonstrated that 5 d PW an ultra-fast wave (UFKW) can change speed flows up 6 % in areas their amplitude maxima.
